My name is Sylvia, I am a Deathwalker and funeral celebrant living in Mullumbimby - Arakwal Bundjalung country. I offer services in the Byron and surrounding shires - including Lennox Heads, Byron Bay, Ballina and the Byron Hinterland.
A Death Walker is somebody that can support you in different stages of the end-of-life journey. I offer non-medical support, similarly to how a birth doula helps people prepare for a birth. Sometimes we are afforded the time to also prepare for a death. We can all start by having open conversations with our families about our wishes. I can provide death planning services, ritual and ceremonies for end-of-life, funeral celebrancy and personalised grief rituals. I aim to create meaningful ceremonies and spiritual rituals that facilitate the journey from grief towards healthy bereavement. Ceremonies that honour the life of the person that passed away and provide comfort to the loved ones left behind.
About meCrafting personalised rituals and ceremonies to honour end of life as sacred. I am the co-founder of Ritual Objects, a ceramics studio specialising in hand made funerary urns and I am currently developing “the dying well” podcast. It is a resource for learning more about death and dying through a series of interviews with experts and death workers. I also host a Death cafe in Mullumbimby at the beginning of every new season.
